Winter’s coming. Cool.
As winter weather slowly creeps its way towards Minnesota, some of us foolheartedly cling to the 40 and 50 degree weather in shorts and flip flops. Meanwhile, the City of Edina has prepared themselves with their newest edition to the front line- a Brine Truck. Exciting, I know. But then I got to talking to the men who drive it and things got more interesting.
The Brine Truck is filled with a special solution (trade secret, I’m sure) that is laid down on the roads prior to a snowfall, to prep the surface. The idea is that when the water evaporates, it leaves behind a barrier that keeps the surface liquidy while the ice and snow build up. The effect is that it prevents the hard-pack from building up and sticking to the road. That makes it easier to plow and for cars to break up while driving over it. Cool. Each full load of solution is able to cover 68 miles of up to 3-lanes in one pass. Cooler. Then we parked the new truck in front of the salt and sand storage area and I took these Way-Cool shots. Thanks fellas. See you on the road.
