Edina wins in a nail-biter

I was asked to shoot the EHS Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team in their home game against the Prior Lake “Lakers” on Saturday night 4/24. I knew that the Lakers were the State Champs the last two years and had a great program, but I also know Andy Lee and his ability to prepare his boys for the season.

The day consisted of sun, rain, sleet, snow and finally more sun just in time for the game. And right from the get-go, the Lakers were ready and scored quickly and seemed in charge. But once the sun went down and the lights came on, the game changed. Edina dug in and stayed in the game, playing mostly from behind. It looked like a loss for the Hornets until the last 2 minutes. Down 3 goals, Coach Lee put the double-team press on the Laker forwards with goaltender, Sawyer Anderson out of net as an attacking defender. It worked and Edina got a turn-over that turned into a goal. Thanks to the quick hands of face-off expert, Charlie Gustafson, Edina maintained control and scored twice more to tie the game and run out the clock.

Overtime was a mini version of the game, with the Lakers scoring twice and Edina battling back to tie. This lead to a sudden-death overtime and this time Edina prevailed with a goal by Channing Schmidt that emptied the sidelines and created a hero. An amazing game to shoot and to watch as a fan.
